| Description | Jorge Mario Pedro Vargas Llosa (Arequipa, Perú, 28 de marzo de 1936), marqués de Vargas Llosa,1 2 más conocido como Mario Vargas Llosa, es un escritor en lengua española, uno de los más importantes novelistas y ensayistas contemporáneos. Peruano de nacimiento, cuenta también con la nacionalidad española, que obtuvo en 1993.3 Su obra ha cosechado numerosos premios, entre los que destacan el Nobel de Literatura en 2010, «por su cartografía de las estructuras del poder y sus imágenes mordaces de la resistencia del individuo, su rebelión y su derrota»;4 5 6 el Premio Cervantes (1994) y el Premio Príncipe de Asturias de las Letras (1986), entre otros. Al igual que otros autores latinoamericanos, ha participado en política, siendo defensor de las ideas liberales. Fue candidato a la presidencia del Perú en 1990 por la coalición política de centroderecha Frente Democrático (Fredemo). |
