Summary[edit]

Description
English: Three bus, toll-bridge and sales-tax tokens used in or around Vancouver, Washington, in the mid-20th century. The hollowed "V" coin reads "VANCOUVER BUS COMPANY" on one side and "GOOD FOR ONE FARE" on the opposite. The "VANCOUVER PORTLAND TOLL BRIDGE" token is one of thousands used to help pay for the Interstate Bridge. The round-centered aluminum coin is a "tax token" issued by Washington state, text reading "SALES TAX / TOKEN / TAX COMMISSION / STATE OF WASHINGTON." Such tokens were used instead of cash for convenience, the state-issued sales-tax token later being discontinued as an unconstitutional creation of a separate coinage, valued at less than one cent.
