FIG 8 VAN DELOL! A ELECTRIC LIGHT COMPAX). ?3 LIGHTING BY INCANDESCENCE. Lighting by incandescence is certainly not economical as compared with arclighting. In the arc-lighting system we easily produce two thousand candle-power per horse-power, whereas with thebest dynamo and lamps made no morethan one hundred and sixty candle-powerper horse-power has been obtained, or aboutone-twelfth of what is obtained by the arc. Stillpeople will have incandescent light, if itcosts as much as gas, or even a trifle more. The superiority of incandescent lightingover gas is, to-day, too well known to dis-cuss the same here. For theaters, churches, etc., or even stores and dwelling houses, theincandescent light can be used successfully. However, for large areas we recommendthe use of the arc light, it being far thecheapest, as above stated. Whenever partiesdesire to have a few incandescent lightsplaced in the office, from our arc lampcircuit, we can give them; but as soon asit is worth while, say for one
