| Description |
English: Valdez Marine Terminal is at the southern end of the Trans-Alaska Pipeline, which brings crude oil from the Prudhoe Bay (North Slope) production area. Oil is transferred to tankers for shipment to refineries in the "Lower 48." There are four berths for tankers, and 18 storage tanks, with a capacity of 9.1 million barrels. The terminal is on an arm of Prince William Sound, across the water from the city of Valdez, and a fairly long drive from there.
The tanker probably the first tanker that was loaded on the day our cruise ship visited Valdez. There was fog, and no tankers could enter the harbor until mid-day. |
