English: VW Beetle "Wäinö", Classic Motor Show in Lahti, Finland.
The vehicle was built by Wäinö Neuberg in Oulu, Finland in 1956-1958 by using of various parts which were available at the time. The engine block is probably from Typ 62 or 82 Kübelwagen, the chassis is possibly from a VW from 1953 or older and the body from a VW of 1956. The fabricate used in the interior is very different than the materials VW used. Neuberg's German-born girlfriend wanted to have a VW but because it was difficult to get West European cars in 1950's, Neuberg decided to build one himself. He got many of the parts from his employer, Finnish Defence Forces. The car was registered in 1958. Neuberg's girlfriend was probably satisfied with the result, because the got married after. |
