ipman family ofUtah. Arza Adams came to Utah in 1848 with his own outfit across the plains, walkingto American Fork from Salt Lake City and building the first flour mill at AmericanFork. He had engaged in the milling business in Canada, a pursuit which his fatherhad also followed. He was a member of the firm of Chipman, Adams & Waterman,who conducted the first mercantile business at American Fork, and he built many flour,saw and shingle mills in Utah and contributed in marked measure to the developmentand improvement of the state. He ranked as a leading citizen of American Fork notonly because of his industrial and commercial activity but also by reason of his serv-ice as Justice of the peace, as ward teacher and as high priest. He likewise acted asmissionary to Canada and did everything in his power to advance the work of the church.He had three wives, the mother of A. B. Adams being his second wife. A. B. ADAMS UTAH SINCE STATEHOOD 759 life began herding sheep and gradually grew into the business. He has prosperedas the years have passed and is now the owner of three bands of sheep and is recog-nized as one of the leading sheepmen of his district. He owns 6320 acres of grazingland in Hobble Creek canyon and in the Uinta Reservation, and in addition hishome farm comprises eighty acres, all of which is under a high state of cultivation.His home is a large, fine modern residence at American Fork and everything about theplace is indicative of the success which lias crowned the thrift and enterprise of tlieowner. Mr. Adams is likewise a stockholder in the Bank of American Fork and adirector and stockholder in the American Fork Cooperative Institution. In 1890 Mr. Adams was married to Miss Edith Summers, who was born in Iowa butwas reared in Utah.
