Title
Unknown pottery sherds: Probably prehistoric
Description
English: Two pottery sherds of uncertain date. One sherd is of a hard, grey fabric with occasional small rounded quartz. The surface of the sherd has five grooves of decoration running across the sherd. Possibly Late Iron Age or Roman in date. The second sherd is crudely made and could be described more as fired clay than ceramic. One side of the sherd is broken which has revealed large imprints of straw or grass. Organic tempers may have been used however it is possible that this is an imprint rather than temper per se. Prehistoric or even Anglo-Saxon in date.
