Summary[edit]

Description
English: This image was possibly taken during the United States Navy visit to Sydney in 1925. The man standing on far left is a US naval officer (possibly a lieutenant), standing next to him is possibly a petty officer with the following three, US Marines. The man standing far right is Major-General C H Brand (District Commandant). He is wearing georgette patches so he is probably a colonel or higher. The men kneeling are all sailors. The rifles are probably Springfield 1903 models.

On 23 July 1925, Sydney hosted eight of the US Navy Battle Fleet's largest ships, including USS CALIFORNIA, USS COLORADO, USS TENNESSEE, USS MARYLAND, USS WEST VIRGINIA, USS NEW MEXICO, USS MISSISSIPPI and USS IDAHO.
The museum wishes to acknowledge ANMM volunteer John McKeown for his assistance in identifying further details regarding this photograph.
