Title
Unidentified quadrilobate object
Description
English: A corroded cast copper-alloy artefact of uncertain function and date. In form it is an openwork quadrilobe with a moulded upper surface and a flat lower surface. The upper surface is moulded such that it depicts two loops, at the crossings of which they interweave under and over each other. Similar motifs on other artefacts are known as 'Solomon's knots', 'guilloche knot' or 'duplex knots'. This artefact also appears to be decorated on its upper surface but corrosion obscures the decoration. There is no obvious means of attachment although one of the loops has vestigial protrusions. Some of the loops have been bent upwards slightly as a result of old damage. The object has corroded to a red-brown colour with dustings of a light-green corrosion product. Very little mid-green patina survives.
