Summary
[edit]DescriptionUnidentified fossil (Boggs Limestone) 2 (16365182719).jpg |
Unidentified silicified fossil (~1 mm across) that at first glance is a hexactine sponge spicule, but it has swollen projections, and may be a foram (?). Several specimens are available - they have an apparent aperture at the base of one of the projections. The aperture is in a consistent spot on different specimens. The tests are hollow. Is this in or related to Order Fusulinida, Family Tuberitinidae? Is this an odd sponge spicule? Stratigraphy: acid-insoluble residue from the Boggs Limestone, upper Morrowan or lower Atokan, Pennsylvanian |
