Title
Unidentified copper alloy object, possile Roman lorica segmentata armour.
Description
English: Possible copper-alloy Roman lobate hinged fitting from a lorica segmentata armour, dating to the first to early third centuries AD. This artefact is formed of a sub-rectangular plate, with a hinge, that then narrows to a point with a circular lobe on each side. There are traces of possible rivet holes (one each on the circular lobes and possibly three on the sub-rectangular plate). This artefact has a broadly dark green to brown corrosion patina. See Bishop and Coulston 2009 (99, Fig 56). However, Lobate hinges are not uniquely Roman and the possibility remains it could be medieval or later.

Length: 22.7mm; width: 17.8mm; thickness: 1.9mm; weight: 2.7g
