A full clinical history was attempted in eachcase until increasing numbers at the daily clinic made it a physicalimpossibility, and we were compelled to limit ourselves to a record ofhemoglobin and certain other information to be used in this report.Even after it was decided to move the camp to Utuado Ave continuedto admit neAv patients in order to give them the benefit of even shortand incomplete treatment, but Ave did not estimate their hemoglobinas the short time rendered such record of no particular A7alue. Therewere 304 such cases and 19 others in which the hemoglobin was notrecorded. Patients were given a prescription which they presented to theapothecary who delivered the medicine with directions as to how itshould be taken, the patients, or those accompanying them, beingrequired to repeat these instructions until they were thoroughly under-stood. They were directed to return in one week for reexamination

Uncinariasis in porto Rico. 105 and more medicine, most of them doing so with more or less regu-larity. This fact alone is an eloquent testimonial of the efficacy of thetreatment. Had they not felt better, they would not have continuedto come long distances on foot, as many did. The hospital was used for patients who were unable to return totheir homes, or who were so ill that we wished to have them underour personal observation while taking thymol. The latter class, as arule, remained only three or four days in hospital, when they weredischarged to give room to others. The majority of cases, both inBayamon and Utuado, never were in the hospital and never receivedany food from us. Patients in the hospital were subsisted by thecommission, but no attempt was made to forward their recovery byextra diet. They received a sufficient quantity of good food andwere satisfied.
