Description
English: A 100 watt "black light" ultraviolet light bulb. This is a standard incandescent bulb with a coating on the glass which selectively absorbs visible light and passes ultraviolet. Since only a tiny fraction of the light emitted by the filament is ultraviolet, most of the light is absorbed by the coating, so the bulb gets very hot, and has a short lifetime.
Date
Source Own work. The camera failed to capture the bulb itself quite accurately because it was too bright, so I had to merge images of different exposures to get it to look the same as it does in real life. I couldn't correct the element though, which in real life appears bright magenta, not white.
