After the surprise hammer price of DKK 1 million, it has surfaced in the media that this painting might actually be a preparatory study by Charles Le Brun for "L'Espagne menaçant la France" in the War Salon of the Palace of Versailles. The painting has a striking likeness to Le Brun's painting: "L'Espagne menaçant la France". In its collections, the Musée de Versaille holds preparatory studies for three out of four lunette paintings in the War Salon, and the Bruun Rasmussen painting matches the dimensions of these studies:
