Description
English: CARIBBEAN SEA (Aug. 30, 2008) A GOES-12 infrared satellite image provided by the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory, Monterey, Calif., showing the status of Hurricane Gustav at approximately 4:15 p.m. EST. Gustav is now a category 4 storm on the Saffir-Simpson hurricane scale, with maximum sustained winds at 150 mph. The storm is moving north by northwest at 14 mph with its track taking it across the western tip of Cuba and into the Gulf of Mexico. Predictions place the storm as making landfall somewhere on the U.S. Gulf Coast by Monday evening. To the east of Gustav is Tropical Storm Hanna. Hanna has maximum sustained winds of 50 mph and is moving north by northwest at 7 mph with its track taking it across the Bahamas by Wednesday and making a possible U.S. landfall later in the week.
