Image title | NSB Kings Bay Explosive Ordnance Disposal Division EODC(EWS/PJ) Marc Elliot positions the 'diver in water' flag while EOD1(EWS/PJ) Jeremy Baker drives the boat prior to a dive into the Ogeechee River Aug. 15 in a search for 2.75 inch rockets, which local residents had been finding in the river near a popular boat ramp and swimming area. EOD, using sonar and six-man diving team, performed a detailed sweep of the whole river bottom in the area reported to be the original spot where the forty-year-old rockets were found. "These missiles are dangerous," said EOD Kings Bay Division Officer in Charge Lt. John Laney. "Although our search today has cleared this area, it is possible that more rockets will surface from the river mud in the future." |
