Description
English: East China Sea (Nov. 29, 2006) – An F/A-18F Super Hornet assigned to the Diamondbacks of Strike Fighter Squadron One Zero Two (VFA-102) flies above USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63). The aircraft had just tried to land aboard the ship but missed catching one of the four arresting wires that stops, or "traps," Navy aircraft. Pilots who miss catching the wire with their tailhook on a landing attempt are called "bolters" and are sent back in the landing pattern. Kitty Hawk and embarked Carrier Air Wing Five (CVW-5) are currently deployed in the Philippine Sea on a regularly scheduled fall deployment.
