Description
English: Philippine Sea (March 8, 2006) - The amphibious assault ship USS Essex (LHD 2) sails in the waters off the island of Iwo Jima with Mount Suribachi nearby. Essex, along with the amphibious dock landing ship USS Harpers Ferry (LSD 49) and elements of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), are visiting Iwo Jima to commemorate the 61st anniversary of the famous battle.
