Description
English: Sasebo, Japan (Oct. 5, 2005) – Fire Controlman 2nd Class Jared B.C. Lamson and Fire Controlman 3rd Class John D. Hermes upload a RIM-7 NATO Sea Sparrow missile into a launcher cell as Chief Fire Controlman Morris C. Spaulding supervises aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Essex (LHD 2). The RIM-7 Sea Sparrow is a medium-range, rapid-reaction, missile weapon system that provides the capability of destroying hostile aircraft, anti-ship missiles and surface missile platforms. Essex recently completed a Ship’s Restricted Availability (SRA) and is now preparing for training evolutions with embarked 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit.
