English: Mississippi River (Sept. 28, 2005) – The Military Sealift Command (MSC) hospital ship USNS Comfort (T-AH 20) enters the mouth of the Mississippi River as it prepares to pull into New Orleans. Comfort is sailing to New Orleans at the request of the Department of Health and Human Services and Louisiana government officials to act as an emergency trauma center as residents begin to repopulate the crescent city. The Navy’s involvement in the Hurricane Katrina humanitarian assistance operations are led by the Federal Emergency management Agency (FEMA), in conjunction with the Department of Defense.
