Summary[edit]

Description
English: Banda Aceh, Sumatra, Indonesia (Mar. 1, 2005) - Director of Surgical Services, Capt. Craig Powell, right, removes sutures from the burn wound of an 18-month old Indonesia girl as U.S. Air force Lt. Col Water Vazquez, left, and Cdr. William Sparks, center, observe the procedure aboard the Military Sealift Command (MSC) hospital ship USNS Mercy (T-AH 19). The medical team replaced the girl's bandages and removed sutures following a skin graft to cover a burn on her left arm. Mercy is serving as an enabling platform to assist humanitarian operations ashore in ways that host nations and international relief organization find useful. Mercy is currently off the waters of Indonesia in support of Operation Unified Assistance, the humanitarian relief effort to aid the victims of the tsunami that struck Southeast Asia.
