English: Mediterranean Sea (July 02, 2004) - An MH-60S Knighthawk helicopter assigned to the “Dragon Whales” of Helicopter Combat Support Squadron Eight (HC-8) receives cargo from the flight deck of the fast combat support ship USS Seattle (AOE 3) during a vertical replenishment (VERTREP) with the aircraft carrier USS John F. Kennedy (CV 67). Kennedy is one of seven aircraft carriers participating in Summer Pulse 2004. Summer Pulse 2004 is the simultaneous deployment of seven aircraft carrier strike groups (CSGs), demonstrating the ability of the Navy to provide credible combat power across the globe, in five theaters with other U.S., allied, and coalition military forces. Summer Pulse is the Navy's first deployment under its new Fleet Response Plan (FRP). Image title | Mediterranean Sea (July 02, 2004) - An MH-60S Knighthawk helicopter from the Dragon Whales of Helicopter Combat Support Squadron Eight (HC-8) receives cargo from flight deck of the fast combat support ship USS Seattle (AOE 3) during a vertical replenishment (VERTREP) with USS John F. Kennedy (CV 67) in the Mediterranean Sea. Seattle and Dragon Whales, units in the USS John F. Kennedy Strike Group currently on a regularly scheduled deployment, are taking part in Summer Pulse 04. This exercise is the Navy's first initiative under the new Fleet Response Plan, which brings global confidence in the Navy's readiness to execute surge during national emergency. Summer Pulse has seven carrier strike groups underway in five theaters. The exercise proves the United States can deploy persistent credible combat power across multiple operating areas in conjunction with allied forces.
