Description
English: Gulf of Alaska (Jun. 9, 2004) - Airman Chase Anderson, from Lakeland, Fla., inspects a sample of JP-5 jet fuel for sediments in a filter room aboard USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74). Fuel samples are taken throughout the day and night to inspect for any possible contamination. Stennis and embarked Carrier Air Wing Fourteen (CVW-14) are currently at sea participating in Exercise Northern Edge during their regularly scheduled deployment. Stennis is one of seven aircraft carriers involved in Summer Pulse 2004. Summer Pulse 2004 is the simultaneous deployment of seven Carrier Strike Groups (CSGs), demonstrating the ability of the Navy to provide credible combat power across the globe, in five theaters with other U.S., allied, and coalition military forces. Summer Pulse is the Navy's first deployment under its new Fleet Response Plan (FRP).
