English: Naval Air Station Lemoore, Calif. (Jun. 2, 2004) - Lt Cmdr. Kurt Frankenberger, left, and Cdr. Doug Denneny, both assigned to the "Bounty Hunters" of Strike Fighter Squadron Two (VFA-2), stand by one of their F/A-18F Super Hornets after being awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross with Combat V for valor. They were recognized for heroism in aerial flight on March 21, 2003 as the Pilot and Radar Intercept Officer of an F-14D Tomcat assigned to Fighter Squadron two (VF-2) aboard USS Constellation (CV 64) deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF). Cdr. Denneny and Lt. Cdmr. Frankenberger were the lead aircraft in a four-ship F-14D Tomcat and F/A-18C Hornet formation that penetrated the heavily defended Baghdad missile engagement zone at the commencement of OIF. Their flight division was the first Naval aircraft and the first non-stealth aircraft to strike Baghdad. They encountered near-continuous surface-to-air missile (SAM) launches and unrelenting anti-aircraft artillery bursts as they delivered their ordnance on an Iraqi Republican Guard and Radio Relay Facility.
