Summary[edit]

Description
English: National Naval Medical Center Bethesda, Md. (Apr. 2, 2004) - Rear Adm. Michael K. Loose, Commander, Naval Facilities Engineering Command and the Chief of Civil Engineers, presented the Purple Heart Medal to Equipment Operator Constructionman Leo "Jerry" Geibel, of Kane, Pa. Geibel is assigned to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion Seven Four (NMCB-74), homeported in Gulfport, Miss., sustained severe injuries to his legs when they deflected a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) in the Ramadi area of Iraq. The RPG exploded on a wall behind Geibel. "Because of their duties, Seabees often are in harm's way," said Force Master Chief Petty Officer of the Seabees (SCW) Harrell T. Richardson, who accompanied Loose in the medal award ceremony. "Petty Officer Geibel fully demonstrates the “Can Do!” attitude of the Seabees and we're thrilled that he is doing well." Geibel's Navy doctors expect him to make a full recovery. U.S. Navy photograph by Chief Journalist Daniel Charles Ross (RELEASED).
