Summary[edit]

Description
English: Huntington Beach, Calif. (Jul. 4, 2003) -- Lt. Cmdr. Walter L. Riter, USN Ret., participates in the 99th Annual Huntington Beach Fourth of July Parade with a large scale model of the World War II battle ship USS Nevada (BB 36). Mr. Riter serves as mobile display officer with Navy Recruiting Command at Naval Weapons Station Seal Beach. The Nevada model was originally used in the 1970 motion picture “Tora! Tora! Tora!” which depicted the infamous December 7, 1941, Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. Following filming, Riter rescued the model from a trash bin, and had it restored to it’s current condition. Each year, Riter takes the model to schools, parades and community events to foster civic pride and understanding of the history and traditions of the U.S. Navy.
