Description
English: Aboard the USS Harper’s Ferry (LSD 49) Sept 20, 2002 -- Rear Adm. Rick R. Ruehe Commander, Amphibious Force 7th Fleet addresses a question from a Sailor during an Admiral's call in the ship's well deck. Dock Landing Ships support amphibious operations including landings via Landing Craft Air Cushion (LCAC), conventional landing craft and helicopters, onto hostile shores. These ships transport and launch amphibious craft and vehicles with their crews and embarked personnel in amphibious assault operations. This is the first visit by Rear Adm. Ruehe to the USS Harper's Ferry since the ship joined the forward deployed naval forces in Sasebo, Japan in August. U.S. Navy photo by Photographer’s Mate 2nd Class Jonathan R. Kulp. (RELEASED)
