Summary[edit]

Description
English: During a POW-MIA Ceremony on Sept. 18 at Fort Monroe, Va., retired Sgt. 1st Class Thomas E. Duncan tells the story of his capture by Red Chinese forces and the two years, four months he spent as a prisoner of war in North Korea. When he was initially captured, Duncan and other U.S. personnel were forced to march for 15 days, covering a total of 250 miles, before they reached a camp near the Chinese border where they received little to eat and endured temperatures of 50-below-zero during the winter months. After his release, Duncan continued his support of the military. At age 47, he enlisted in the Active Reserve and attended Drill Sergeant School at Fort Lewis, Wash. At age 50, he was selected as Drill Sergeant of the Cycle, almost 28 years after his captivity. He is now retired and resides in North Carolina.
