Description
English: View of the flight deck of the U.S. Navy aircraft carrier USS Shangri-La (CVA-38) during her deployment to the Mediterranean Sea from 7 February to 28 August 1962. Various aircraft of Carrier Air Group 10 (CVG-10) are parked on the flight deck. The guided missile cruiser USS Springfield (CLG-7) is visible in the background. Identifiable aircraft are:
  • two Vought F8U-1E Crusader of Marine Fighter Squadron VMF-251 "Thunderbolts" (AK-2XX);
  • two F8U-1P of Photographic Reconnaissance Squadron 62 (VFP-62) Det.44 "Fighting Photos" (AK-9XX);
  • six Douglas AD-6 Skyraider of Attack Squadron 176 "Thunderbolts" (AK-4XX);
  • four Douglas A4D-2N Skyhawk of VA-46 "Clansmen" (AK-5XX) and a A4D-2 of VA-106 "Gladiators" (AK-3XX);
  • three Douglas F4D-1 Skyray of Fighter Squadron 13 (VF-13) "Night Cappers" (AK-1XX).
