Description
English: The U.S. Navy rescue and salvage ship USS Shackle (ARS-9) assisting the battleship USS Pennsylvania (BB-38) in Nakagusuku Bay ("Buckner Bay"), Okinawa (Japan), on 13 August 1945. Pennsylvania had been torpedoed by a Japanese aircraft on at 2045 hrs on 12 August 1945. She was taken under tow by a pair of tugboats on 18 August, bound for Apra Harbor, Guam, where they arrived on 6 September. Due to the end of the war, Pennsylvania was not repaired but expended as a target ship.
