Summary[edit]

Description

The U.S. Navy destroyesr USS Keppler (DD-765), USS Warrington (DD-843), USS Samuel B. Roberts (DD-823) and USS Stribling (DD-867), in the background, at Port Royal Bay, Bermuda, on 10 August 1963. Many other ships, including an Essex-class aircraft carrier, a fleet oiler and a ballistic missile submarine, are in port.

The photo illustrates the differences between the FRAM I (Warrington and Samuel B. Roberts) and FRAM II (Keppler) modernizations. The most notable differences are the original bridge on Keppler and the lack of an ASROC launcher between the funnels. She also has an older radar (SPS-6 instead of SPS-40) and a Hedgehog launcher in front of the bridge. FRAM I ships had the two Mk 32 triple torpedo tubes in front of the bridge, wheras the FRAM II Keppler carries the torpedo tubed between the funnels.
