Description

ARABIAN GULF (Sept. 28, 2015) Aviation Boatswain's Mate (Handling) 3rd Class Andres Ulloa Fernandez signals an Army UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter from the Combat Aviation Brigade, Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 137th Aviation Regiment while conducting deck landing qualifications on the flight deck of the Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Essex (LHD 2) as part of an interoperability exercise between the Navy and Army. Essex is the flagship of the Essex Amphibious Ready Group and, with the embarked 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit (15th MEU), is deployed in support of maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations.
