Summary[edit]

Description
English: A formation of U.S. Navy Douglas A-4 Skyhawk aircraft flies over nuclear Task Force One, on whose return to the United States on 3 October 1964, concluded a sixty-five day unreplenished world cruise. The three ships, the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise (CVAN-65) and the guided missile cruisers USS Long Beach (CGN-9) and USS Bainbridge (DLGN-25), were under the command of Rear Admiral Bernard M. Strean. The ships made in-port visits in four countries and underway visits to eight others. The primary purpose of Task Force One's circumnavigation was to gain knowledge and experience in operating nuclear ships at high speeds for extended periods. Photograph released 2 October 1964.
