Summary[edit]

Description

A look at the Star Alliance Logojet.

In 1997, upon the founding of Star Alliance, this aircraft was painted from the Saul Bass Rainbow into the original variant of Star Alliance logojet, which consisted of the Star tail, and various sections of the aircraft painted in liveries of the five founding members. Of course, as it was a United plane, the nose portion got the United Battleship Gray at that point.

For 2004, it was given a new Star Alliance paint - just the "STAR ALLIANCE" billboard letters on white fuselage, with the airline name under the window line. N653UA was the first aircraft anywhere in Star Alliance to bear two different Star Alliance liveries.

For years, this was the only United aircraft with special livery. Eventually a 777 and a 747 received the same Star Alliance livery, and in 2011, an A320 received the 1972 "Stars and Bars" livery to mark United's 85th anniversary. Also with the Continental merger, Continental's Star Alliance logojets received United titles as well.

On the far right edge of this photo, there is a Battleship Gray 757 tail whose tulip has the blue and red reversed. The blue is on the left side on a normal United tulip, but on a mirror image tulip (as is the case here), it should be on the right.

In the foreground is the right wing of a Boeing 737-500, a former Shuttle by United member, that will fly me to Los Angeles.
