Description

SCIENTIST OBSERVES DROPLETS CREATED WHEN A SAMPLE IS INJECTED INTO THE NEBULIZER FOLLOWING THE CHROMATOGRAPHY PROCESS. AMES SCIENTISTS DEVELOPED AN INNOVATIVE TECHNIQUE THAT COMBINES INDUCTIVELY COUPLED PLASMA-MASS SPECTROMETRY WITH CHROMATOGRAPHY TO IDENTIFY ULTRATRACE METALS IN BIOLOGICAL SYSTEMS AT PARTS PER TRILLION LEVELS. ALLOWING MEASUREMENTS AT PARTS PER TRILLION LEVELS, THE ICP-MS TECHNIQUE RELIES ON A SPECIAL TYPE OF CHROMATOGRAPHIC SEPARATION CALLED SIZE EXCLUSION CHROMATOGRAPHY IN CONNECTION WITH A STATE OF THE ART MAGNETIC SECTOR MASS SPECTROMETER AND AN INDUCTIVELY COUPLED PLASMA, A VERY HOT ARGON GAS.
