Summary[edit]

Description

U.S.S. Solace Nurse Unit (BUMED 09-5069-29), U.S. Navy BUMED Library and Archives

Description: Nurses in the U.S.S. Solace Nurse Unit, aboard the ship. "This picture shows the Solace nurses' in Army "nurses slacks". Trunks and foot lockers with extra uniforms had failed to arrive (it took nearly three months). Most of the remaining uniforms were destroyed in a laundry accident. The seer-sucker "slacks" obtained as emergency substitutes won great favor. They are neat, easily laundered and allow great freedom of movement in handling casualties in the crowded wards, in upper as well as lower bunks." Front row: (Left-right) Ensign Border; Ensign Toy; Lieutenant (junior grade) Seroka; Lieutenant (junior grade) Toenberg. Middle Row: Ensign Smith; Lieutenant (junior grade) McDonald. Back Row: Ensign Tasker; Lieutenant (junior grade) Beck; Ensign Bianchi; Lieutenant (junior grade) Bucher; Lieutenant (junior grade) Morgan; Lieutenant Lynch-head nurse. Ensign Tucker is absent from this picture.
