Summary[edit]

Description

Following the building of the Berlin wall, East German authorities did everything in their power to prevent the underground transport system from being used as an escape route, barbed-wire fences and walls were to be installed to prevent any would-be escapees from running along the track bed to the West. Before these were installed tunnels were patrolled by East German police. Unfortunately for the GDR, of the 150 people who managed to use the U-Bahn system to escape, half of them were soldiers
