English: Two Buildings Two Eras By Trevor McClintock
These two buildings on this road naturally caught my eye. I spotted this photo while walking on a particularly old fashioned street, what immediately stood out was this completely different style of building on such a distinctly old street. I used a relatively low aperture to create a shallow depth of field; I wanted no detail in the background, with the singular focus being the sharp angles of the modern structure. I used a rapid shutter speed to create an underexposed image. This allowed me to bring out the multiple straight lines in the building without worrying about the photo being blurred. As this was shot freehand this was the only possible outcome. When editing the photo I first lowered the brightness and adjusted the contrast in the photo to match the colours of both buildings. I then put the image through a custom black and white filter in order to blur the two buildings together. My aim here was to make sure the idea that both buildings were of completely different styles, but still carried out the same initial function. |
