Description

Accession#: 71-211-A Object Title: Tureen Dimensions: 18 L, 14.5 H, 10 D.

The sterling silver tureen was made for Benjamin Williams Crowinshield, by Philadelphia silversmith Joseph Lowens before 1816. Crowinshield was Secretary of the Navy under President Madison and Monroe from 1815-1817.

The tureen base and lid are both engraved with a "C" . The handle is removable so the lid can be used as a serving piece.
