Summary[edit]

Description

The Tu-104 was the worlds second jet airliner to enter service, following the British DH106 Comet. Due to the Comet being grounded following accidents, the Tu-104 therefore became the worlds first properly successful jet airliner. A total of 201 were built and they saw service in Russia, the Czech Republic and Mongolia. This particular Tu-104 was built in 1958 and saw military special flight service, but in Aeroflot colours and wearing a civil registration (CCCP-42390). It was later converted for Zero-G cosmonaut training and based at nearby Chkalovski. It arrived at Monino for display in 1979. Sadly, this significant airframe is hidden away in an 'off-limits' area. Hopefully one day it will be restored and moved to a more prominent position. c/n 9110117. On display at the Russian Air Force Museum. Monino, Russia.
