What was the meaning of the word ? 28 TKUE STOKIES FEOM THE BOOK. CHAPTER VIII.THE STOEY OF JOSEPH. Joseph vras the son of a shepherd, living inthe land of Canaan. He had ten grown-upbrothers, and one little brother younger thanhimself. He was seventeen years old, and wasa true, good boy, and his father loved him. It is very natural to love those who are lovelyand good; but it is not always wise to showit too strongly. Partiality in a father breedshatred in those Avho are not loved; and Josephsbrothers hated him because his father had givenhim ^-a coat of many colors, and had giventhem none. Joseph, too, had told his father ofthe evil things which his brothers did. He dreamed two very singular dreams, whichwere prophetic. He innocently told these to hisbrothers, and they hated him the more. ButJ oseph had no hatred in his heart toward his badbrothers.
