Nederlands: Litho. Ingekleurde litho naar een tekening van Théodore Bray (no. 19/25).
Stadsslavinnen waren werkzaam als huispersoneel, soms ook wel als ventsters die voor hun meesters of meesteressen de straat opgingen om koopwaar aan de man te brengen. Stadsslavinnen waren doorgaans beter gekleed dan plantageslavinnen. De koto, waarvan op deze prent een eenvoudige vorm te zien is, is ontworpen voor slavinnen, volgens de ene bron omdat echtgenotes van slavenhouders de aantrekkelijke meisjes wilden kleden, andere bronnen stellen dat het de Moravische broedergemeente was die de koto ontwierp voor jonge slavinnen. In ieder geval werd in 1874 bepaald dat "ter bevordering van de openbare zedelijkheid het uitgesloten is dat de surinaamse vrouwen in het openbaar en als huisbediende zich met onbedekt bovenlichaam vertonen" (Henar Hewitt:10).
