English: Food storage guard on a plantation
Nederlands: Litho. Ingekleurde litho door Petit naar een tekening van Théodore Bray (no. 16). Voor een hut zit een bewaker van een voedseldepot van een plantage. Slaven moesten zelf voor hun eten zorgen, en bebouwden daartoe kostgrondjes, een soort moestuintjes. Ook moesten ze vaak zorgen voor het eten van de planter en zijn gezin en werknemers. Het voedsel werd verzameld bewaard en bewaakt door een kostwachter, vaak een oudere slaaf die niet meer geschikt was voor het zware veldwerk..
