Nederlands: Aquarel. Waterverfschildering naar G.W.C. Voorduin van suikerplantage Catharina Sophia aan de Saramacca rivier. Deze plantage werd in de eerste helft van de 19de eeuw aangelegd.
De plantage, in de lokale taal Sukrigron genoemd, Suikergrond, was eigendom van het gouvernement. Ten tijde van de afschaffing van de slavernij waren er 407 slaven aanwezig. De schilder was Agent-generaal Cateau van Rosevelt. Johan François Adriaan Cateau van Rosevelt deed op eigen houtje wat de koloniale overheid verzuimde: een realistisch en geografisch verantwoord beeld van het land scheppen. In 1872 werd hij aangesteld als immigratiechef van de contractarbeiders (Javanen, Hindoestanen, Chinezen enz.) die het zware werk op de plantages deden. De volharding waarmee Cateau van Rosevelt de belangen van deze bevolkingsgroep behartigde, maakte hem al bij zijn leven tot een legende. Niet voor niets luidde zijn bijnaam 'koeliepapa'..
