City of Angels, has sprung in afew brief years to be the Metropolis of SouthernCalifornia/ It is 482 miles from San Francisco,and can be reached by rail or steamer. It is theterminus of three Southern Over-land routes, thehome of culture and refinement. The area of thejustly celebrated climate of Southern California islimited largely to the coast line in the form of asegment of an arc, from Point Conception, SantaBarbara County to San Diego. Mountains north,and Islands along the coast shield several lovelyvalleys from cold winds, and an ocean eddy bringsto this coast warm waters from the South. Fromthe mountains come invigorating atmosphere, thedesert sends a pure dry air, and the sea contributesdaily breezes, a tonic fresh and bracing. The airis warm, sweet, and delicious. Here semi-tropicalfruits, and rare exotics grow in open air the winterthrough, strawberries ripen every month in theyear, and radiant butterflies constantly flit amongever-blooming flowers.
