I hadn't visited Great Ashby District Park or Pryor's Wood for quite some time, but decided to go on 7 September 2010. When I got to Thirlmere Wood, I saw two police officers with two other men walking towards the reserve. I diverted but as I got closer I saw lots of caravans and I wasn't happy because it's my favourite nature reserve. I was also a bit unhappy that most of the plants had been chopped. When I got to the reserve, the police officers were further along, around where I was standing when I took this photo. This is only a small portion of the caravans – there were many more between Thirlmere Wood and Pryor's Wood, to the right of the ones here. Then a few days later, I read that North Herts District Council had come to an agreement with the travellers that they would leave the site but that tractors had to be brought in to help them leave due to muddy conditions. NHDC are going to make the site more secure and work on a clean-up operation.
