The Takasegawa (Takase River) is a picturesque stream running through the heart of Kyoto's entertainment and shopping district. Here it's shown in spring with cherry blossoms in bloom on the bank. The stream takes its name from boats like the one in the photo, called a Takasebune (Takase boat). This one is purely for show, and the sake barrels on it are empty. It sits there as a reminder of an earlier era when shallow flat bottom boats like this ferried supplies in and out of Kyoto to other areas.日本語: 高瀬舟。高瀬川一之船入。京都市中京区木屋町通二条下ル西側一之船入町。 |
