Description
English: Statue of René Descartes in Tours. On the pedestal one can read the famous latin sentence COGITO ERGO SUM (I think, therefore I am). Made in 1848 by Alfred Emile O'Hara, count of Nieuwerkerke, installed in Tours (place Anatole France) in 1852. It is the marble copy of a bronze statue made in 1846 for the city of The Hague. Reference in the Inventaire général du patrimoine culturel: IM37000457.
Français : Statue de René Descartes à Tours. Sur la terrasse du piédestal on peut lire la célèbre phrase latine COGITO ERGO SUM (Je pense, donc je suis). Réalisée en 1848 par Alfred Emile O'Hara, comte de Nieuwerkerke, installée à Tours (place Anatole France) en 1852. C'est la copie en marbre d'une statue en bronze réalisée en 1846 pour la ville de La Haye. Référence à l'Inventaire général du patrimoine culturel : IM37000457.
