Man with umbrella standing at the junction of Nassau Street, Grafton Street and Suffolk Street. The "Clarke Week" image for today (a little later than usual - apologies) is another candid streetlife shot from Dublin's south-side. The top-hatted gentleman looks to be standing on the corner (near Trinity's Provost House) looking towards Grafton Street. There appears to be an actual carriage or cart where Molly Malone's statued cart would later be sited... [/photos/gnmcauley/ Niall McAuley] identifies that Hamilton Long and J. M. Bernardo two businesses visible in the photo are amazingly still trading. As a bonus he tells us that one of the Bernardo sons Dr Tomas John founded the Bernardo Charity! Niall also helped us narrow the date range a little. As our regulars already know, we will claim a "people identified tag" at the drop of a fez. That said, the Duke of Edinburgh, Rt. Hon. Joseph Chamberlain, M.P. and Lady Augusta Bracknell, might be seen as stretching that point a little too far.
