English: Tom Skinner aboard the Hawaiian double-hulled canoe “Hokulea” during time trials off Oahu in 1975. “Voyage of the Hokulea” was the first National Geographic produced by the Pittsburgh based WQED staff. Tom worked closely with Dale Bell who produced the 90 minute Special that culminated in the first successful voyage by the Hokulea from Hawaii to Tahiti utilizing only celestial navigation. |
